Oklahoma Has Plenty to Say. I'm Still Listening.

As OIGA 2026 gets closer, I've been thinking about some of the casino marketing work we've done in Oklahoma's tribal gaming industry over the years.

That tends to happen before a show.

You start thinking about the people, the properties, the conversations, the problems everybody was trying to solve at the time. Some of those people are still in the gaming industry. Some have moved on. Some of the people I'll see at the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association event may know me already. Some may know our casino marketing agency. Some may not know much about us at all.

That's part of what makes these events worthwhile.

One Oklahoma casino marketing project keeps coming back to me. I won't name the property, but I remember the situation clearly. It had plenty going for it. Good name recognition. A real chance to reintroduce itself to the market in a bigger way. Some strong built-in advantages. It also had some real obstacles and was stepping into a much tougher competitive environment than it had faced before.

That kind of work has always interested me.

Not the easy assignment. The one where you have to sit down, be honest about the situation, and figure out what gives the property its best shot.

Back then, our work touched a lot of areas. Player rewards program structure. Casino promotions strategy. Database marketing. Analysis reports. Staff training. It was not one of those situations where you tossed out a few catchy lines, launched a campaign, and called it a day. The property needed a plan that made sense from the marketing side and from the guest side.

That's still true now, by the way.

A lot of people want the exciting answer first. The big idea. The shiny object. The quick fix.

Sometimes the better answer is less glamorous.

Sometimes it's getting the fundamentals lined up. Understanding the local casino market. Knowing where the property has an edge and where it does not. Building a player loyalty program people can understand. Making sure casino promotions support the bigger goal. Training the frontline team so the casino guest experience feels clear and consistent when guests have questions.

That was a big part of this project.

What I remember most is that the property had opportunity, but it needed structure. It needed the promise and the experience to line up. It needed marketing to support the operation, not just talk over it. It needed people on the floor to understand what the property was trying to do and how to help deliver it.

That may not sound flashy, but that's the stuff that sticks.

And the good part is, it worked. The property gained traction, the casino database moved in the right direction, and tracked revenue improved. We stayed involved, kept refining the communications, kept looking at the numbers, and kept adjusting where it made sense.

That kind of project stays with you.

It's a good reminder that in this business, good work is usually not about one thing. It's not just promotions. Not just creative. Not just data. Not just the club. It's how all of it works together.

That's one reason I'm looking forward to getting back to Oklahoma for OIGA 2026.

We've worked with some very good gaming operators there over the years. We've learned a lot in the Oklahoma casino market. We've picked up experience in other gaming markets too, and some of what we've learned elsewhere could be useful in Oklahoma now.

Because 2026 is not the same casino industry as it was years ago. Player expectations have changed. Competition has changed. Gaming and marketing technology has changed. Teams have changed. The pressure to produce results sure hasn't changed.

So, if you're going to OIGA, I'm looking forward to the conversations. Whether we've known each other for years or have never met, I'd be glad to compare notes.

What's working now. What's getting harder. What's changed. What still needs work.
